What are all the changes to CFA level 1 exam in 2021?




The chartered financial analyst (CFA) is a globally recognized designation given by the CFA Institute, California. To earn the CFA charter, you are required to pass three levels of CFA examination. If you wish to become a CFA or hold the gold standard in finance profession, it is important to know every detail about CFA exam patterns and its schedule.

Candidates are required to pass three levels of exams covering areas such as ethical and professional standards, quantitative methods, economics, financial reporting and analysis, corporate finance, equity investments, fixed income, derivatives, alternate investments, portfolio management and wealth planning. 

As of currently in 2020, there are more than 167,000 CFA charterholders worldwide in 163 countries and regions. The designation is handed out by the CFA Institute, which has nine offices worldwide and 156 local member societies.

Post covid-19, there have been some changes to CFA exam criteria in 2021. A major update incurred in the examination pattern from the year 2021 is that CFA exam will now be conducted through online mode. CFA Institute also announced that the dates, formats and timings of all 3 levels will undergo a transition. 

The CFA level 1 rescheduling deadline was 17 January 2021. Earlier, the CFA Institute had planned four seatings for the registered candidates in 2021. But, now the institute has added two more seatings for the registered aspirants under CFA level 1.

The changes to CFA exam framework have many implications. Firstly, computer based or online mode of examination will create a workspace environment wherein Excel and other software tools are used. The four exam windows facilitate the conduct of examination in 400+ locations around the world.  The CFA Institute also states that as per their research, reduction in the length of time for exam and a total of 180 questions are best suited for the interest of students.
